Optoelectronics
Blue Wave has produced and is developing
several techonolgies in the area of optoelectronics. UV detectors based on a novel metal-oxide system that is analogous
to GaAlN: It is based on a wide band gap (WBG) oxide system that is realized
by alloying two primary oxide compounds, exhibiting a wider and tunable band gap, creating semiconductor materials which have energy gaps from 3.3 eV to 7.9 eV with high radiation hardness.
New wide band gap thin film transparent conductors for energy related devices.
Blue Wave is developing methodologies for new thin film, transparent conductors by exploiting defect structures and chemistry in direct and wide band gap nitride semiconductors to produce man made engineered lattices yielding high optical transparency as well as high electrical conductivities. These robust TCOs will
be applicable in energy efficient electronics, solar cells, transparent and electrochemical high energy density capacitors, batteries,
energy windows, high temperature power optoelectronics,
and white LEDs for energy and cost saving options.
Blue Wave is also developing compact, and bright UV light emitting devices based on nanostructural optical materials that have tunable optical UV light emission. These
devices are based on optical processes emerged in
nanomaterials by absorption and emission through band
gap engineered meta-stable but high quantum efficiency
nanocrystalline, highly directed wires and
nanocrystalline epitaxial films. The devices will have applications in medical devices, biological analysis tools, ultraviolet-based secure communications, space sensors, mineral identification, UV curing, UV fluorescent inspection, UV security, UV disinfection/sterilization of water, and UV measurement
